Near to Knock/Ireland West airport and the East Mayo towns of Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Ballindine and Knock, Tigh Mhic (‘Mick’s Place’ in Irish) has become a favourite location for families looking for some peace and quiet and as a base for further exploring into counties Mayo, Galway, Roscommon and beyond.
Built in 1903, the cottage has been refurbished and extended in a way that has kept its original character, but which offers all the amenities you look for today: underfloor heating (no extra charges here for keeping warm!), together with high-quality fixtures, fittings, linen, robes and furniture. There are three double bedrooms, one with an ensuite wet room, plus a good sized kitchen/lounge area and a large family bathroom.
Tigh Mhic also has a wood-burning stove, a selection of games of books for both younger and older, Sky TV, a dvd player, garden furniture and wifi (it’s good but not unlimited as the rural rollout of broadband hasn’t reached us yet!). Dogs are welcome as long as their owners are housetrained. There is also an optional in-cottage catering service.
We’re also really flexible with bookings; all we ask is a two-day minimum stay. Start when you like and leave when you like during the week.
For the last six years Tigh Mhic has been awarded a four-star rating by Irish tourism body Fáilte Ireland, the only self-catering property to achieve the highest rating possible in this part of Ireland.
